After starting my journey making candles and learning more about them, I discovered that many candles and waxes contained nasty toxins that are released into the air when being burned.
Perhaps this was the reason I was getting headaches when lighting my “bargain” candles?
This concerned me.
I didn’t want to get a headache every time I lit my candle?!
And what was it doing to the environment?!
I wanted to create a brand where you can be sure that your candle contains no nasties.
A candle with the Bare essentials… Soy wax and a wick!
All candles will be fully customisable, so if you would like to add a scent or a dye then this option is available.
You can also be safe in the knowledge that if you do choose a scent it will be Vegan and Cruelty Free
I wanted to make sure that the resources I used were Earth friendly, so I use sustainably sourced soy wax.
Soy wax is better for the environment and does not contain toxins, plus it burns slower and longer.
This wax is derived from soybeans and, therefore, is made from vegetables (opposed to regular oil- or paraffin-based candles).
You can be sure that when you light your candle from Bare that it's hand-poured with love, vegan & cruelty free.

My Story
My name is Charlie and I am the owner of Bare.
I have had health problems since birth and in 2014 I was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and many other co-morbidities. Unfortunately there is no cure for this genetic condition and my treatments and surgeries are currently on hold due to the pandemic.
In 2020 I lost my main source of income after not being well enough to return to my 9-5 job.
I felt lost. I felt useless. I felt like I had no purpose.
I tried other ways of working online and trained to be a travel agent, unfortunately the pandemic surfaced a few months in and I was back to square one.
I didn’t know what to do but I could feel my mental health was deteriorating and I had been neglecting things I used to really enjoy, like crafting!
I could no longer draw and paint like I used to as it causes me too much pain, but I’d always been obsessed with candles and decided to try making my own.
After making my own candle from scratch and lighting it I felt such joy!!! I had created something by myself that had brought a little light into my dark world.
I shared some pictures of the candles I had made and was overwhelmed with the feedback I received. People were asking if I was selling the candles, if they could order custom items and how to purchase from me. After lots of hard work, determination and technical difficulties my very first collection was launched in January 2021.
Seeing the reviews and pictures of my creations in other peoples homes has given me so much joy.
I now have launched my very own website and would love to help you to spread some light in your life too.
All candles are created by me Charlie, in my kitchen, with love here in Risley, Derbyshire.
I offer free local delivery or collection.

Please note that I make all candles myself and I have multiple disabilities which can impact me in many ways. Despite this I do my absolute best to get your candles as perfect as possible. If you have any issues with your order please pop me a message and I will do whatever I can to resolve it.
